Candor Health Education

Is a nonprofit organization that educates students, their trusted adults, and communities on the topics of puberty, sex education, and substance use prevention.  We provide science- based information in a safe, engaging environment so students gain age-appropriate knowledge which prepares them to make informed decisions that positively impact their health.

Candor Health Education is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that embraces individuality and promotes fairness for everyone. This is evidenced through the daily internal and external interactions of Candor staff as well as the content of our Candor Health Education programs.

MISSION

To positively impact the physical, social and emotional health of young people through innovative education programs.

VISION

All young people in our communities possess the knowledge, attitudes and skills to make decisions that positively impact their physical, social and emotional health throughout their lives.

CORE VALUES

Everything that Candor Health Education does will adhere to the following four core values:

Past

Present

Future

Candor Health Education has a strong history of working with community partners to respond to emerging health issues. In recent years, programs have been developed for the special needs community, the non-English speaking population and to address the growing heroin epidemic. These innovative, interactive programs are proven to increase social-emotional skill building and scientific understanding of the sort of risk-taking behavior that can negatively impact health. Research shows that students are better prepared to make healthy choices after receiving these prevention health programs.

Eric Pitcher, a long time Hinsdale resident, grew up in a loving home but one in which topics like body changes, sexual health, and drug use weren’t openly discussed. His family experienced the downside of not talking more about these issues.

As a father of a boy and a girl who both participated in Candor’s puberty program, he was impacted by the conversations it stimulated at home. He is a strong believer in early education about topics that can shape a student’s life – and in some cases, save it.

Eric is the Regional Manager, Economic Development, at BNSF Railway Company where he has worked since 2005. He develops strategic products and services for industry groups, including rail transport, industrial real estate, electric/gas utilities, economic development agencies. Prior to that, he worked in an economic development role for Northern Indiana Public Service Company and in sales roles with Trigen Energy and Enron Energy Services. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1995.

Eric and his wife Ann enjoy volunteering in the community where they have lived for 25 years. He is an avid platform tennis player, history buff, and is looking forward to being a grandfather in 2022.
